Setting up Outlook Express

Microsoft Outlook Express 5 is a part of Internet Explorer 5.0. It is free. The major difference between Outlook98, and Outlook Express is the lack of a calendar function in Outlook Express. Both are mail readers. You may send and recieve attachments with either, and both support HTML based e-mail messages (those with backgrounds, special fonts, etc.).

To set up Microsoft Outlook Express 5.0 for reading mail from you UALR Account follow the steps below.

  1. Start Outlook Express
  2. From the Menubar, select Tools then Accounts

  3. Select the Mail tab and click Add

  4. Select Mail from the list

  5. Enter your name as you would like it to be displayed on outgoing messages. Click Next

  6. Select 'I already have an e-mail address that I'd like to use.'
    Put your e-mail address in the blank. Click Next

  7. Select 'IMAP' as the incoming mail server type.
    Type imap.ualr.edu in the Incoming mail box
    Type smtp.ualr.edu in the Outgoing mail box
    Click Next

  8. Enter your user name and password (Password is optional. If your machine is used by others, this is not recommended. Outlook will ask for your password each time you check your mail.)
