To use MacPPP, you must be dialing into a terminal server that is capable of supporting PPP.
MacPPP requires MacTCP 1.1 or higher (or Open Transport 1.1.1 or higher), Macintosh System 6.0.5 or higher, and a Hayes-compatible modem for dial-in connections.
Getting Started
Once you have finished installing and configuring MacPPP, as described below, your dial-in TCP/IP sessions will be handled automatically. You'll simply click on the 'Open PPP' button on the Config PPP Control Panel or start up a software application that uses MacTCP (or Open Transport). Your modem will dial automatically.
- Open up the MacTCP Control Panel.
- Click the "More" button and open up a dialog box to change settings.
- Under Obtain Address select 'Server' - if you aren't able to change the other settings then select 'Manual' and then after you have made the relevant entries go back and select 'Server'.
- Under Routing Information for the Gateway Address, enter 0.0.0.0
- Under IP Address choose "B" in the pop-up menu box. This should set the Subnet Mask to 255.255.255.0
- If the Subnet Mask is not 255.255.255.0, then click and drag the sliding bar until the Net, Subnet, and Node Bits read 16 - 8 - 8 as shown below.
- Under the Domain Name Server Information enter ualr.edu for the Domain and the IP address is 144.167.10.48 with the default button checked.
- Click the OK button. To become effective RESTART your computer

Starting a PPP sessionAll should be in order now. You could launch MacPPP from the Open button on the Config MacPPP dialog. However this is not advisable (according to Apple) if you are using Open Transport. If running Open Transport, you should just launch the application you want to run instead of initiating your connection with the Open button on the Config MacPPP dialog. Starting Netscape or NCSA Telnet will do. The application will startup MacPPP and you can watch the progress of the connection process in the MacPPP alert box.
