Cooperative Education is an academic program that allows qualified students the opportunity to participate in work-integrated learning. Students gain relevant work experience, academic credit, and great pay. Employers gain valuable employees who are enthusiastic about contributing their skills to special projects.
There are many advantages of Cooperative Education; however, our main focus is on student learning. Students who are placed in Co-op positions earn academic credit by enrolling in a Co-op course from their academic department. Throughout the semester, students and their supervisors participate in learning agreements, assessments and site visits. At the conclusion of the semester, students present learning outcomes to the Co-op Coordinator and their faculty coordinator. Students have indicated that they have a better understanding of classroom theory after their Co-op experience. Co-op clarifies classroom learning and gives students confidence in their choice of major and career.
