Fans Select Finalists For The 2011 Premier Player of College Basketball Award

There is no excitement in sports without the participation of the fans. Since November 2010, sports fans have been coming to our online polls to vote for the best athletes in NCAA men and women college basketball. Based on their votes, here are the five finalists in each category for The 2011 Premier Player of College Basketball Trophy:

Men’s Basketball Finalists
- Harrison Barnes, Forward, North Carolina Tar Heels, Freshman
- Jared Sullinger, Forward, Ohio State Buckeyes, Freshman
- Jimmer Fredette, Guard, BYU Cougars, Senior
- Kyle Singler, Forward, Duke Blue Devils, Senior
- Nolan Smith, Guard, Duke Blue Devils, Senior

Women’s Basketball Finalists
- Chastity Reed, Forward, Arkansas Little Rock Trojans, Senior
- Elena Delle Donne, Forward, Delaware Blue Hens, Sophomore
- Jasmine Thomas, Guard, Duke Blue Devils, Junior

Today, the candidates are placed in new polls so fans can vote for the overall winner of The Premier Player Trophy. The winners will join Ryan Mallett, quarterback, University of Arkansas, as being the first recipients of the award in their particular sport. The new polls close April 4th, and the trophies will be presented on April 16 in Charlotte, NC, prior to the tip off of the Jordan Brand Classic Basketball Tournament at the Time Warner Arena.

The Premier Player of College Basketball is one of three major awards presented by the Premier Players Sports Foundation. It will be presented annually in Charlotte each April during a charitable awards dinner. Others include the Premier Player of College Football Charitable Awards Dinner, held annually in Tampa, FL, the weekend after the BCS national championship game, and the Premier Player of College Baseball/Softball Charitable Awards Dinner held annually in Atlanta, GA, each July. Proceeds from the events benefit local charities in their respective cities.
