College of Science and Mathematics

Welcome from the Dean

Dean Gealt

Thank you for visiting the UALR College of Science and Mathematics (or CSAM) web page. CSAM is a diverse college containg departments and programs that are involved with teaching science (biology, chemistry, earth science, enviromental health sciences, and physics & astronomy), mathematics (mathematics & statistics), and health and wellness (nursing, health sciences, health-related programs, and programs in preparation for a career in medicine, dentistry, veterinary schools).  If you are interested in becoming a teacher of science or mathematics, our nationally recognized programs coupled with the secondary education minor is highly recommended.  The CSAM departments and programs deliver science-based curricula that prepare you with the tools needed to be in the 21st centruy workforce in Central Arkansas — or anywhere in the world you dream of working.

There are many opportunites for you to become involved in activities that will help build your professional portfolio.  Undergraduate research is something many students are interested in pursing — and many of our faculty welcome undergraduates into their research laboratories.  Students have had the chance to work on plants at Lake Maumelle, to study changing patterns of atmospheric pollutants, to work on local geology and to develop new and exciting materials in nanotechnology.  Some students have learned how to help obese children lose weight while others in nursing have aided community programs by administering flu shots.  CSAM is a college where you can start developing your professional skills while helping your community.

Our college is also focused on helping students succeed.  We offer tutoring help in several programs as well as faculty advising for students on courses they need to help meet their career goals.  We also have student interest groups where you can meet study-mates who have similar career goals.

Please browse the links on this page to visit the Departments and Programs within CSAM and find out what we are, where we are going, and how you can be a part of the excitement.  We are continually updating the web page with information about our activities and plans for the future.  We hope you will visit us again soon to catch up with the latest news, and if you want to visit in person, please call my office to make arrangements.
