Faculty Spotlight| Cheryl Johnston

Meet Cheryl Johnston, a senior instructor in the applied communications department.  She is honored to call UA Little Rock home for over 26 years as an instructor.  Before teaching, she graduated from the UA Little Rock with her B.A. in Speech Communication before continuing on to receive her M.A. in Interpersonal and Organizational Communication from this school as well.

“I wanted to leave an impression on students lives just as my professors had on mine,” she says, reflecting on one instance where she left an impression with a student.  “He was a single father who had a dream and not much else.  He didn’t have a car, had never used a computer; he really hadn’t had any support from life.  I helped him set up his Blackboard and spent time with him in the CSC [Communication Skills Center], and he thrived.  After working so hard, when he made his first B, we both cried.

In addition to teaching, Professor Johnston enjoys ziplining, quilting, and riding her ATV 4-wheeler while at the farm.
