Professor Emeritus of Sociology Terry Richard-Treviño and his twin brother, Jerry Richard, have donated $11,000 to the University of Arkansas at Little Rock to start a scholarship that will support Latino students at UA Little Rock.
The Wesley, Jerry, and Terry Scholarship Award is named in honor of the twin brothers and Terry Richard-Treviño’s son, Wesley, a 34-year-old veteran who passed away April 9 due to trauma suffered while serving in Iraq.
Richard served as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps and served two terms of combat during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
“He was my son, and he was my hero,” Terry Richard-Treviño said.
Richard also attended UA Little Rock, where he was honored on the Chancellor’s List during his first year of college and was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He graduated from the DeVry Institute with a bachelor’s degree in computer science.
Terry Richard-Treviño, a longtime advocate for the Hispanic and Latino communities, was recently honored by Just Communities of Arkansas as one of five Humanitarian of the Year Award recipients.
