The UALR Ethics Bowl Team is advancing to compete in the 19th Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl National Championship which will take place February 22, 2015 in Costa Mesa, California. The Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl is an academic competition that provides an educationally valuable experience in the areas of practical and professional ethics. The competition focuses on selected cases that cover a wide range of contemporary ethical issues, from professional and medical ethics to social and political issues. Students on the teams demonstrate their ability to (1) understand the facts of the case, (2) articulate the ethical principles involved in the case, (3) present an effective argument on how the case should be resolved, and (4) respond effectively to challenges from the opposing team as well as the panel of expert judges. The competition is organized by the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics.
The UALR Team is the only Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl team in Arkansas. The team was successful at a regional qualifying competition this fall and has been invited to the national championship. UALR has qualified for the National Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl twice in the last four years. The last time our UALR Ethics Bowl Team competed at the national level, it defeated the State University of New York at Buffalo and Georgetown University teams before being defeated by the United States Naval Academy team. The UALR team is currently one of the top 32 Ethics Bowl Teams in the United States.
Your donation will support the UALR Ethics Bowl Team by covering travel and conference expenses for the national competition.
