Lunch & Learn – Death by Dialect: Oppression of language is still oppression (Free Lunch)

March 26, 2018 at 7:00 am - 8:00 am

Free

We all have opinions about how people talk.  However, sometimes these opinions can cause people to have trouble getting jobs, getting housing, getting an education, and getting lots of other things that are keys to social advancement.  In this Lunch and Learn we will discuss how dialect is often used as a way to keep stigmatized groups of people from socially advancing. We will attempt to recognize our own linguistic biases and work at looking past those biases to see people for who they really are.  Speaker is Dr. Gregory Robinson.

Lunch is provided for the first 25 participants.
