Donaghey Scholar Hamza Arshad Wins the Whitbeck Award

Fourth-year Donaghey Scholar Hamza Arshad is to receive the Whitbeck Memorial Award. This honor is given each year to UALR’s oustanding senior for demonstrated excellence in scholarship, leadership, citizenship and character. Arshad, an alumni Central High School who will graduate in May with degrees in philosophy and interdisciplinary studies, has been accepted into medical school at UAMS.

Arshad is the co-chair of the Donaghey Scholars Student Committee and a member of the program’s Policy Council. In addition to his academic achievements, Arshad interned for the Neuroscience Summer Program at the University of Alabama in Birmingham and was recently recognized as an Outstanding Delegate at the Bilateral Model Arab League Conference in Houston.

He is a member of several honor societies, including Sigma Iota Rho, Alpha Episilon Delta, and Golden Key. In addition, Arshad is a charter member of the Rotaracts, a Rotary-sponsored service organization for young people age 18 to 30.

His volunteer activities include serving as a patient care advocate at UAMS and Arkansas Children’s Hospital, as well as camp counselor at Camp Aldersgate.

Congratulations, Hamza!
