Dr. Gail Hughes joined the UALR faculty in 2003 and currently serves as an Associate Professor in Educational Foundations Unit of the Department of Educational Leadership. Dr. Hughes teaches courses in Statistics and Research serving graduate students throughout the College of Education. Due to her numerous collaborations with faculty and students, her publications span a variety of areas. Her greatest contributions are measurement issues in survey research. Dr. Hughes is an invited contributor on Reverse Scaling in the newly published Encyclopedia of Measurement and Statistics and is also a nominee for the 2006-2007 UALR Faculty Excellence in Research Award.
Her service to the University begins with serving on student committees and department, college, and University committees. Professionally, she serves on the editorial board for Educational Technology, Research, and Development and for the Journal of Educational Research (ranked 5th among educational journals). She also contributes as copy editor for Research in the Schools and as a reviewer for the Journal of Experimental Psychology. Her memberships include the American Educational Research Association (AERA) and Mid-South Educational Research Association (MSERA), a regional affiliate of AERA. Throughout her career, she has served on committees for MSERA such as Co-Chair of the Graduate Student Advisory Committee, an At-Large Representative for the MSERA Board of Directors, and will serve as Program Chair for the 2007 annual meeting.
