Faculty Member Recognized for Dissertation Excellence

Dr. T. Elon Dancy II, visiting assistant professor of higher education at UALR, is receiving recognition from Division J of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) during AERA’s annual meeting in New York City, March 24-March 28, 2008. His dissertation, Manhood Constructions among Engaged African American Male Collegians, is being recognized for excellence during the presentation of the Division J 2008 Outstanding Dissertation Award at the AERA-Division J Business Meeting and Reception, Thursday, March 27, 2008. The process was extremely competitive with the award committee receiving 38 nominations from outstanding scholars across the country. Dr. Dancy received the Ph.D. in higher education from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA.

Higher Education (HIED) Alum Named President of HSU

UALR graduate Charles Welch, who earned his doctoral degree in higher education administration at UALR, has been named the 15th president of Henderson State University at Arkadelphia, AR.

Welch began his higher education career at UALR in 1997 as an adjunct instructor in the Department of Political Science and continued in that role until he finished his doctoral studies. He was named chancellor of the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope in 2005.

He was the president of the Arkansas Association of Two-Year Colleges until 2007 when he became a consultant-evaluator for the Peer Review Corps of the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
