Dr. Alicia Ervin Cotabish
Principal Investigator, Project STEM Starters
Alicia taught 8 years in the public school system before entering the field of higher education. As a teacher in Arkansas, Alicia directed an award-winning gifted program for 3 years. In 2004, Alicia joined the Center for Gifted Education at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock where she served as the project coordinator for a federally-funded, state-wide evaluation initiative in gifted education, the Arkansas Evaluation Initiative (AEI) in Gifted Education. She has also served as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Gifted Education and as a Research Associate at the University. Alicia currently serves as one of two Principal Investigators of Project STEM Starters. She teaches graduate classes in the Gifted Education Graduate Program and the Teaching Advanced Placement Graduate Certificate Program.
Alicia was the recipient of the 2007 Arkansans for Gifted Education (AGATE) Educator Award. In 2006, the National Association for Gifted Children honored her with the Doctoral Student Award for potential leadership and early scholarship in the field of gifted education. Most recently, Alicia was the recipient of the 2008 Texas A&M University – Texarkana Distinguished Alumna Award. Alicia serves as a board member for the Arkansas Association of Gifted Education Administrators (AAGEA) and the Arkansans for Gifted and Talented Education (AGATE). She also serves on the Professional Standards Committee for the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) and on the Editorial Board of Teaching for High Potential (THP).
