Dr. Gail Hughes joined the UALR faculty in 2003 and currently serves as a Professor in Educational Foundations Unit of the Department of Educational Leadership and served as the College of Education Interim Dean from July, 2013 – June, 1014. Dr. Hughes began her teaching career in development mathematics and now teaches courses in statistics and research serving graduate students throughout the College of Education. Due to her numerous collaborations with faculty and students, her publications span a variety of areas. Her greatest contributions are measurement issues in survey research. Dr. Hughes is an invited contributor on Reverse Scaling in the newly published Encyclopedia of Measurement and Statistics. In 2011, she earned the Academy of Teaching and Learning Excellence Distinguished Teaching Fellow Award. Over the years, she was awarded the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, College of Education, Faculty Excellence Award in Research (2007), Teaching (2009), and Service (2011).

Her service to the University begins with student service, with more than 20 completed dissertations, then extends to department, college, university, and community service. Professionally, she serves on the editorial board for Educational Technology, Research, and Development and for the Journal of Educational Research. She also contributes as copy editor for Research in the Schools. Her memberships include the American Educational Research Association (AERA) and Mid-South Educational Research Association (MSERA), a regional affiliate of AERA. Throughout her career, she has served on committees for MSERA such as Co-Chair of the Graduate Student Advisory Committee, At-Large Representative for the MSERA Board of Directors, and President Elect. She serves the community through program evaluations for grants to improving teaching and learning in the STEM disciplines.
