Intern – First Electric Cooperative (GIS)

First Electric Cooperative has an immediate opening for a college intern position at the Jacksonville location.  Please see below for job description and qualifications.  Interested individuals should send a resume no later than Wednesday May 3rd.  Resumes should be sent to: randy.everett@fecc.coop<mailto:randy.everett@fecc.coop>.  Working hours are between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5 PM.  Class schedules are taken into account and can be worked around as long as they are within normal working hours.  Applicants must be currently enrolled in college but can continue to work through normal breaks in school (summer session and holidays) and can work full time during those periods.  Employment will end upon graduation or when enrollment in college has ended.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

ENGINEERING WORK STUDY STUDENT

I. Objectives

a. To perform various activities as directed by the assigned supervisor.

b. To provide assistance and support to the assigned supervisor and to keep the supervisor informed of the results being achieved.

 

II. Essential Functions

a. General data entry and archiving.

b. GIS entry and archiving.

c. Digitizing and retrieving documents.

d. Assisting engineering personnel with field work.

e. Other duties as assigned.

 

III. Reporting Relationships

a. GIS Manager

b. Other department personnel as assigned.

 

IV. Wage and Hour Information

a. This position is an hourly rated non-exempt position under the Wage and Hour Law and overtime compensation must be paid.

 

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS

ENGINEERING WORK STUDY STUDENT

Education

Must be a high school graduate and concurrently enrolled as a student in a post-secondary educational institution.

Experience

Experience using Windows OS computers is required. Experience with MS Office, mapping, drafting, or GIS software is desirable.

Job Knowledge

Proficiency in high school level math and reading is required. Must have a valid Arkansas driver license.

Abilities and Skills

Must be punctual and reliable, and have the ability to carefully follow verbal and written instructions. Must also be able to quickly become proficient with the various software systems used within the Engineering Department. Must have the ability to operate office machines, and to assist with field survey and staking work.

Working Conditions

Primarily office work, but some field work in varying weather conditions may be required
