In the spring of 2015, Dr. Barrio attended three different conferences, where she presented on two of her current research projects: service-learning in literature courses and Edwidge Danticat’s contributions to social justice through literature. Dr. Barrio is currently working on two articles for publication: one focuses on Edwidge Danticat’s use of literature as a form of activism for consciousness-raising and social justice, and the other explores abolitionist discourse and present-day child slavery in Haiti through Jean-Robert Cadet’s two autobiographies.
