Dr. Guarav Kumar

Dr. Guarav Kumar is an associate professor in the Department of Accounting who teaches undergraduate and graduate financial accounting courses. He is well known for incorporating new industry trends into the classroom.

He has been instrumental in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) issued by the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB). The IFRS Foundation provides a standard global language for business practices so that business accounts are comparable and understandable internationally.

In the near future, American public companies will be required to use IFRS standards. With this in mind, Gaurav began incorporating IFRS into his accounting curriculum.

He advises his students on IFRS and outlines the difference between IFRS and U.S. accounting standards for each financial guideline. He has taught three seminars on IFRS to the Arkansas Society of Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) .

In 2012, he received the Distinguished Achievement in Accounting Education Award from the Arkansas Society of CPAs. This award recognizes college accounting faculty in Arkansas for excellence in accounting instruction and involvement in the accounting profession.

Since 2015, Kumar has worked with the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) on the CPA exam. The AICPA is updating the CPA exam and is working with volunteers to test changes. Kumar’s students have tested the changes to the exam allowing them to see changes in accounting trends first hand.

Kumar received a Ph.D. in Accounting from the University of Mississippi and a master’s degree from Kurukshetra University in India.
