Bruce Plopper
Protecting citizens from government abuse
Dr. Bruce Plopper frequently shares his academic knowledge and professional journalism experience in the classroom and the newsroom – to the benefit of local students, journalism teachers, and average citizens. He has worked diligently to bridge the gap between government and the public to ensure that elected officials are held responsible to those who elected them.
This mass communication professor’s work with the Arkansas Freedom of Information Coalition has helped prevent the passage of bills that would restrict citizens’ rights to information from public meetings and records. In addition, Dr. Plopper volunteers his time to conduct workshops for high school journalism teachers and students to further help those citizens when their free-speech rights appear in danger of restriction.
Dr. Plopper earned his bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and his master’s and doctorate from Southern Illinois University. He is a member of the Arkansas Freedom of Information Coalition, Arkansas Press Women, and the Reporters’ Committee for Freedom of the Press.
