Understanding cancer survivorship
Cancer and HIV/AIDS are not subjects many individuals enjoy discussing, but Dr. Avinash Thombre has found in them a rich topic for study. Through his research in the Caribbean, India, and the United States, the assistant professor has developed a greater understanding of culturally tested communication strategies. This comprehension and subsequent application of best practices could help save lives and enhance health for patients all over the world.
In a study of web communication, Dr. Thombre identified best practices for informing individuals of their risk of contracting HIV/AIDS as well as for helping them avoid infection. He uses care and concern to empathize with patients who are battling life-threatening diseases such as cancer as well. By uncovering their unique stories, Dr. Thombre has identified communication strategies that can improve their mental well-being and quality of life.
