Theresa M. Beiner

Protecting civil rights

Professor Theresa M. Beiner’s research is incredibly opportune in its focus on issues such as diversity, gender, and sexual harassment. In the past five years alone, she has written one book, seven articles, and two book reviews – an incredibly ambitious and productive publication schedule.

Terri BeinerHowever, Beiner’s work is more than timely. It literally provokes others into thinking about topics that are not easy, not neat, and not pleasant. Beiner’s book, Gender Myths v. Working Realities: Using Social Science to Reformulate Sexual Harassment Law, is one of the most cited works in the area of sexual harassment research. Over 230 citations to Beiner’s work have appeared in law reviews nationwide.

Beiner is the Nadine L. Baum Distinguished Professor of Law at the Bowen School of Law. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia and her Juris Doctor degree from Northwestern University School of Law. She is a board member for Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families, a long-term member of the American Civil Liberties Union of Arkansas, and a member of the Arkansas Association of Women Lawyers.
