Philip Oliver
Engaging delightful students
For almost 30 years, Professor Philip Oliver has worked to share the intricacies of tax law with students at the William H. Bowen School of Law. His approach is novel, and he has virtually written the book on tax policy for law students across the country. In fact, Oliver is known among students for his near-photographic recall of tax statutes.
Through his use of the Socratic Method, Oliver teaches students to reason and apply the knowledge they gain in the classroom. For Oliver, students have lives outside the classroom as well. His faculty leadership of the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund shows Oliver’s concern with their interests and legal application beyond coursework.
Oliver earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama and his Juris Doctor degree from Yale Law School. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the American Bar Association, the Arkansas Bar Association, and the American Association for Justice.
