UALR men go 1-1 on road trip

The Trojans beat the Florida International Panthers 78-70 in Miami on Thursday, Jan. 20, and lost to the Florida Atlantic Owls 71-88 in Boca Raton, Fla. on Saturday, Jan. 22, to go 1-1 on their Florida road trip. The FAU game was televised on ESPN 2.

Senior guards Alex Garcia-Mendoza and Matt Mouzy each scored 15 points and the Trojans shot 52 percent from the field in the victory over FIU (8-11, 3-4 Sun Belt Conference). UALR out-rebounded the Panthers 37-26, getting 15 offensive boards for the game.

The Trojans (12-10, 4-3 SBC) led 43-28 at the half, but the Panthers pulled within four points with 15:51 remaining in the game. Senior Solomon Bozeman hit a jump shot with 14:52 left to bump the lead to six and FIU never got closer than five the rest of the game. Bozeman and freshman guard Chuck Guy each scored 12 points for the game.

Florida Atlantic (15-6, 7-0 SBC) out-rebounded the Trojans 42-27 and shot 50 percent from the field in the victory over UALR. The Owls had five players score in double figures, led by sophomore forward Kore White’s career highs of 22 points and 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the year.

Bozeman led the Trojans with 26 points, tying his career high, shooting 8-12 from the field and 5-7 from 3-point range. Guy scored 15 points and had three assists in the loss.

The Trojans return home to face Arkansas State at 7 p.m Saturday as part of a doubleheader with the Lady Trojans.
