Track and field improves
The Trojans took home six wins Saturday, Feb. 5, at the Middle Tennessee Invitational in Murfreesboro, Tenn. Demond Burns won the men’s 55-meter dash in 6.41 seconds. Casey Canady won the men’s shot put with a 14.98-meter throw, breaking the school record he set last year (14.72m). Taron Dunn won the men’s triple jump with a 14.84-meter distance, breaking the school record previously set by De-Von Bean (14.80m) in 1998.
Sheena Howell won the women’s pole vault with 3.05 meters. Grace Rich won the women’s 800-meter dash in 2:19.12 and Shannon Sullivan won the women’s 5,000-meter run at 18:20.13.
Barrett Kerth took second in the mile at 4:23.60. Nathan Carr took second in the men’s 800-meter at 1:53.13. Marissa DeLaPaz took second in the woman’s 5,000-meter at 18:41.07. Johnny Purvis took second in the men’s 5,000-meter at 15:00.33.
“I couldn’t have been more pleased… It was a fun meet, we ran extremely well,”coach Milton Williams said. The team will compete Feb. 11 and 12, at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville.
