Trojans fall into 3-way tie for third

The Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns defeated the UALR Trojans 67-66 on Saturday, Feb. 5, in front of a crowd of 4,066 at the Cajundome.

Trojans’ senior guard Solomon Bozeman hit two free throws to give UALR a 66-65 lead with :09 remaining in the game. UALR guard Tramar Sutherland fouled ULL guard Travis Bureau with :01 left. Bureau, shooting 57 percent from the free-throw line on the year, hit both free throws to give the Ragin’ Cajuns the victory.

The loss puts the Trojans (13-12, 5-5 SBC) in a three-way tie for third place in the Sun Belt West Division with North Texas and Lafayette (8-14, 5-5). The third-place teams are two games behind division leader Denver, while Arkansas State is in second place and a half game behind the division leader.

Bozeman led UALR with 19 points, shooting 15-17 from the free-throw line. Junior forward Eric Kibi had 10 points and his nine rebounds led the Trojans. After scoring 24 points in the victory against Denver on Thursday, Feb. 3, senior guard Matt Mouzy was held scoreless.

Bureau led the Ragin’ Cajuns with 23 points and 11 rebounds, while his teammate, freshman J.J Thomas pitched in 16 points and nine rebounds.

The Trojans face North Texas at 7:30 on Thursday, Feb. 10, at the Jack Stephens Center.
