Men fall behind one and a half games

After being snowed out for their game against North Texas Thursday, Feb. 10, the Trojans picked up a victory on the road defeating the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks 61-53 Saturday, Feb. 12.

The Trojans (14-12, 6-5 SBC) started the game on a 13-2 run in the first 7:30, capped by a layup by senior guard Alex Garcia-Mendoza. Mendoza finished with 14 points and four rebounds in 30 minutes.

UALR was up by 22 points with 3:23 remaining in the first half and led by 15 at the half. The Warhawks (6-21, 1-12 SBC) got within 55-50 with 3:36 left in the game, but the Trojans hit 4-4 free throws down the stretch to preserve the 8-point victory.

The win places the Trojans 1.5 games behind division leaders Arkansas State and Denver, with each team having an 8-4 Sun Belt West record.

Senior guard Solomon Bozeman led the Trojans with 18 points on 5-7 shooting.  Junior forward Marlon Louzeiro recorded his first double-double of the season scoring 11 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.

Warhawk guard Fred Brown led all scorers with 22 points hitting 4-9 3-pointers.

The Trojans return home to face Western Kentucky at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, at the Jack Stephens Center.
