Ladies pick up win on road
Trojan senior forward Chastity Reed picked up her fourth double-double of the season and scored a season-high 40 points as UALR defeated the University of South Alabama Lady Jaguars 75-66 Wednesday, Feb. 23, in Mobile, Ala.
Reed scored 30 points on 13-16 shooting in the first half to lead the Trojans to a 46-29 lead at the half. She averaged 24.6 points last season, but is averaging 19.3 points this season after her 40-point effort, shooting 17-29 (59 percent) on Wednesday. Reed had failed to score 20 points in the Trojans’ nine previous games while shooting 30 percent from the field. She matched her season high in rebounds with 11.
The Trojans (19-6, 13-1 SBC) took a 19-point lead on a Marian Kursh layup to start the second half, but South Alabama (15-12, 7-8 SBC) went on a 22-5 run the next 9:38 to get within two points. The Trojans countered with a 6-0 run making it a 59-51 UALR lead with 6:05 remaining, but USA got within two points with 4:36 left on a Christian Shelter 3-pointer.
UALR took control the final two minutes of the game as Reed scored six points during an 8-0 run with :42.
Trojan senior guard Asriel Rolfe scored a season-high 20 points on 6-10 shooting (6-6 free throws) while dishing out six assists with one turnover. Senior guard Shanika Butler led the team with seven assists, grabbed six rebounds and had three steals. Kursh added 10 rebounds.
Little Rock native and senior guard Siedah Banks led USA with 15 points and eight rebounds.
