Basketball picks up awards

The men’s and women’s basketball teams picked up several awards to end the conference season. Senior Solomon Bozeman was chosen as the Sun Belt Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Year, while senior Chastity Reed picked up the same honor for the women. Senior Shanika Butler was named Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year while Lady Trojans coach Joe Foley was named SBC Coach of the Year.

Bozeman currently leads the Sun Belt in scoring in SBC games at a 17.7 points per game clip. He is shooting 47 percent from the 3-point arc, averaging 15.8 points overall, which ranks second in the conference ranking. Bozeman also is a member of the First Team All-Sun Belt Conference.

Reed made the First Team All-Sun Belt Conference as well and is averaging 19.2 points, which leads the conference, and 6.4 rebounds.

Butler made the Second Team All-SBC and averaged 2.3 steals per game, which ranks second in the conference. She is averaging 7.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game.

Foley won his second consecutive SBC Coach of the Year award after leading the Lady Trojans to their fifth straight 20-win season and fourth straight SBC West Division title. He picked up his 600th career win on Jan. 29 against the Arkansas State Red Wolves.
