Can’t decide who to vote for in the upcoming Student Government election? Well get your questions ready.
SGA presidential candidates will share their visions for UALR in a debate sponsored by the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, March 10, in the Donaghey Student Center upper concourse, between the campus life and SGA offices.
There are four candidates running for president: the incumbent Simone Lewis, is on a joint ticket with a new running mate, Maroof Zafar; Zandra “Zee” Carroll is running with Shannon Williams; Michael Fiasco with Anna Marie Hoyt; and Ricky Harris with Solomon Phifer.
The debate will include a two-minute opening statement, in which each candidate will outline their platform. Then there will be a round of five questions, asked by SPJ members, and a round of questions from the audience. Finally, each candidate will be allowed a two-minute closing statement.
Booths will be set up around the perimeter of the upper concourse for senators and executive board candidates to share ideas with students. Carroll said she looks forward to the debate “to get feedback on how students feel about the issues on campus.”
SPJ is sponsoring the event to further their mission to help people be informed voters and citizens.
