Senor Tequila offers an authentic and affordable experience
Senor Tequila is eight blocks north of the university’s campus and features a range of meals under $10. Drink specials are excellent during happy hour (4-7 p.m. every day) and the variety of food and quality of service is excellent. From 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, a live mariachi band strolls the room taking requests and doling out pleasant acoustic sounds. The band has six to seven members depending on the night, and their music adds to the already authentic experience.
Everything is made-to-order and cooked in vegetable oil (a healthy alternative to lard or butter). The wait staff is polite and efficient. Birthdays are treated with a musical serenade and the opportunity to wear a large Sombrero. A full-service bar is available in one of the restaurant’s three rooms. The menu is often updated and provides an extensive selection of combination and a la-carte items. The restaurant also offers to-go orders (chips and salsa are included in any order). Drinks range from $2-4 during happy hour, including margaritas for $2.50 and imported beers for $2 on tap.
The veggie fajitas (pictured above) are my personal favorite. They arrive on a large, sizzling iron skillet filled with a variety of grilled vegetables marinated in a house sauce. The fajitas are supplemented with fresh homemade flour tortillas, rice, beans, guacamole and pico de gallo. They run just under $8. The fajitas, like most of the meals, could feed more than one person.
Senor Tequila is located at 2000 S. University Ave. and open for lunch or dinner 7 days a week. Call 501-660-4413 for more information or to place an order. There are several other locations throughout Little Rock and North Little Rock.
