The UALR soccer team will kick off their 2011 campaign on Friday at Burns Park against Missouri State. The match begins at 7 p.m.

“We’ve decided to open up the season against a very strong opponent,” coach Freddy Delgado said in a release from UALR Sports Information. “Missouri State is a very good team with an attack-oriented style of play and should give us a good contest.”

The Trojans will have an experience-laden team this year, returning their top seven goal scorers from a year ago and holding on to nearly 90 percent of their offense.

More importantly, both senior Christina Veasley and sophomore Adrianna Queen are returning. The duo formed the Trojan’s best goal-scoring tandem last season.

“Christina has been a strong and steady source for us over the past three years,” Delgado said in the release. “Going into her senior year, she is very motivated and excited, like all our seniors, to go out on a successful note.”

Queen, from Las Vegas, came on strong at the end of her freshman year, scoring six goals in her last 10 games.

“Adrianna has come in very fit this year,” Delgado said in the release. “She didn’t find her form last year until late October. This year, she’s come in ready to play and has looked very good through the preseason and I think she is going to have a breakout season.”

After Friday’s game, the team will play the next three matches on the road. Their next home match is against the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff on Sept. 2 at Burns Park.

The team starts conference play at Florida International on Sept. 23.
