Volleyball serves up consecutive wins

Trojan volleyball won their second consecutive conference match on Sunday, October 2, beating South Alabama 3-0 at the Jack Stephens Center.

UALR defeated Troy 3-0 on Friday, September 30.

Head coach Van Compton said she believes the two home wins have helped the young team.

“We were almost ready to turn the corner and I think these two wins have helped us turn the corner,” Compton said in a post-match interview on

“It also helped us to beat them in three (sets),” she said, “I think that gave us added momentum.”

The victory brings the team to 2-3 in conference play and 7-12 overall.

Senior Kristi Block said she was glad to get the second home win of the season

“Friday was a great win,” Block said in a post-match interview on, “and now, adding this one to it was amazing.”

Freshman Edina Begic led the team with 13 kills, followed by Junior Paige Gantar with 10.

After being on the road for over a month, the team will be home for their next three matches, starting 7 p.m. Friday against North Texas.
