Letter to the Editor: Mother of five identifies with single mom’s struggle

Dear Editor,
I am writing this in regard to a recent article, “Single mom aims for academic success,” by Tony Howard.  I am not a single mother, but I can very much identify with Jaime’s struggle to continue her college education.  I am a mother of five and this is my third try at finishing my college education.  It is very hard to find the time, but with my husband’s help we make it work.

I am amazed at how Jaime manages to be a full-time student, hold down a full-time job and still find time for her children. It inspires and motivates me to keep going, and it gives me hope that I can make college work while keeping up with my children’s schedules and dealing with the everyday life of raising a large family.

Thank you,

Paula Powell, UALR student
