Fall 2011 career fair, Career Connections Day, sponsored by UALR Career Services, attracted 51 employers and about 250 students Oct. 12. The event, held to help link students of all majors and employers, was in the Donaghey Student Center, rooms A, B and C. There were also representatives for students interested in graduate degrees.

The Office of Career Services gave away two $100 and two $25 gift cards for the UALR bookstore.

Acxiom Corporation’s College Recruiting/ University Relations representative, Allison Nicolas, said that she was happy with the turn out and that she is always impressed with the caliber of students at UALR.

Overall, participating employers were pleased with the Career Fair, according to Mike Kirk Director of Counseling and Career Planning. The help the employers received from ROTC, Chancellor’s Leadership Corps, and African American Male Initiative and other campus groups, along with the lunch provided by Sodexo all received positive responses on the comment / survey sheets gathered by the Office of Career Services.
Some employers were disappointed by the student turnout. They expected more students to be prepared with resumes and in their manner of dress to greet the employers according to the response surveys.

North Little Rock School District, Maverick USA, Regions Bank, Southwest Power Pool , Verizon Wireless and The Princeton Review were a few of the recruiting companies represented at the career fair.

The Office of Career Services offers resume help and assistance with scripting an interview through mock interviews for students. For more information on future career fairs or the services offered by the Office of Career Services go to
