Coming off a 52-48 season opening win over Conference USA opponent Tulsa, the Lady Trojans faced another C-USA opponent in Southern Methodist University, but fell short in the second half, losing to the Lady Mustangs, 69-60, on Monday, Nov. 14, at the Jack Stephens Center.

UALR (1-1) had a 34-29 halftime lead after a lay up by Hannah Fohne ended the first half. The Lady Trojans jumped out to a 7-2 start in the first half before SMU (2-0) had a 12-0 run with 12:44 in the game.

SMU tied the game at 41 in the second half after UALR took a nine-point lead and exploded for a 19-0 run to make the score 49-41 in favor of SMU. With 7:26 to go in the game, Tyson drew a foul and hit one-of-two free throws to trail SMU by eight.

The margin was cut to seven, 65-58, with 1:23 left in the game after a lay up and two back-to-back three-pointers by freshman Taylor Gault. With Senior Marian Kursh’s layup bringing UALR within seven, SMU guard Sabrina McKinney was fouled and made both free throws to seal the victory for SMU.

Gault led the Lady Trojans for the night with a game-high 20 points, including four three-pointers. Kursh finished with 17 points and seven rebounds and Junior Janette Merriex added eight.

The Lady Trojans will resume play at the Jack Stephens Center against Texas A&M, the 2011 NCAA Division I National Champions, on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m.
