A career-high from freshman Taylor Gault was enough to propel the Lady Trojans over the Lady Red Wolves of Arkansas State University 64-57 on Saturday, Jan. 14 at the Convocation Center in Jonesboro.
Gault had 26 points on 10-of-22 shooting from the floor to go along with four rebounds and one assist.

Head coach Joe Foley seemed pleased with his team’s effort after the win.

“I thought we played really hard,” he said. “I thought we did a good job in the second half of taking advantage.”

UALR (8-10, 3-2 Sun Belt Conference) put together a 10-1 run over the first five minutes of the second half and would go on to lead by as many as 13 points before ASU made an effort to close the gap.

Senior forward Marian Kursh had 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting and added six  rebounds.

Senior forward Britteni Williams led all players with 12 rebounds.

The Trojans were plus 15 on the boards overall, winning the rebound battle 48-33.

The Red Wolves employed a trap against the Trojans late and were able to cut the lead to eight, but UALR converted on free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.

One sore spot for UALR was turnovers, as the Trojans had 22 for the game, which led to 26 ASU points.

UALR returns to action at home against University of Louisiana at Lafayette on Wednesday, Jan. 18 at the Jack Stephens Center. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
