Timely offense and dominant pitching was enough to secure the Trojans 5-3 victory over Troy on Friday, March 23, at Gary Hogan Field.

Junior Chance Cleveland struck out a career-best 12 batters en route to his fifth win on the season. Cleveland leads the Sun Belt Conference in strikeouts with 44.

He gave up just two runs on three hits over eight innings of work.

UALR put its first run on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning when senior Nick Rountree grounded out to third, scoring junior Chris Burk, who tripled to start the inning.

The Trojans would strike again in the sixth on a two-run homer by Rountree. Junior John Clark hit a double to deep center field, scoring senior Sean Bignall, who struck out swinging but reached first when the ball went to the back stop.

Sophomore Bryson Thionnet doubled, bringing in Clark, putting UALR up 5-0.

Rountree finished with three RBI’s and a homerun, his fifth of the season.

UALR plays Troy on Saturday at 4 p.m. in game two of the series.
