Sophomore leads UALR past Tulsa in season opener
After coming off an impressive freshmen season, Taylor Gault began her sophomore debut with a career-high 33 points as UALR defeated Tulsa, 73-64, on Monday Nov.12, at the Reynolds Center.
Gault, who was Sun Belt Freshmen of the year, went 13-for-20 (65 percent) in the game, including 3-for-4 from the three-point line. She also scored 13 points in the first half.
The Lady Trojans led by 11 points (32-21) in the first half before Tulsa went an 10-2 run to trail 34-31 at halftime.
With UALR up by four (51-47) with 10:24 to go, freshmen Carolee Dillard picked up her fifth personal foul and finished the game with two points and four rebounds.
UALR went on to stretch the lead to 10 points (61-51) in the second half on a jumper from Gault.
The Lady Trojans never trailed the entire game and finished with over 54 percent in the win.
Junior Taylor Ford hit a free throw to put UALR in a 68-58 lead with over a minute left in the game after being fouled by Tulsa’s Ashley Clark.
The Lady Trojans went on to secure for the victory after Morgan Bolton, Ford, and Gault made free throws down the stretch.
Junior Hannah Fohne had 10 points in the win but was one rebound short of a double-double. Sophomore Kiera Clark had eight rebounds to go along with her six points.
Tulsa was led by Taleya Mayberry’s 22 points.
The Lady Trojans will tip off its home season opener at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15 against Missouri State at the Jack Stephens Center.
