Career fair offers opportunity for students to network
More than 50 employers will participate in the Spring Career Connections Day hosted by the Office of Counseling and Career Planning Services and the Office of Cooperative Education Internship and Placement from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 13, in the Donaghey Student Center Ledbetter Hall.
“The first thing I recommend students do is access our career fair presentation via the website at ualr.edu/careerfair and click on the ‘How can I prepare for Career Connections Day?’ link,” said Michael Yang, coordinator of the Office of Cooperative Education Internship and Placement.
The career fair presents the opportunity for immediate employment, as employers may conduct on-the -spot interviews with students. A professional dress code is strictly enforced.
“It is a great way to connect with employers that partner with the university,” Yang said.
Even if students are unable to work until after graduation, he said, they may use the event as an opportunity to network and create rapport with employers.
“Come to the Career Connections Day event every semester equipped with questions to ask employers. Create your own business cards to bring to the event,” Yang said.
Students may further prepare for the event by accessing the website for a list of attending employers, so they can create a more relevant resume for a specific employer.
“It is important [that] students bring their updated resume to hand to prospective employers,” said Michael Kirk, director of the Office of Counseling and Career Planning Services.
Both offices offer year-round resume assistance for students. For more information, call the Office of Counseling and Career Planning Services at (501)569-3185 or the Office of Cooperative Education Internship and Placement at (501) 569-3584.
