Vivien-Sara Fechner, 21

Studio art major, marketing minor

Nominated by the International Club

Vivien-Sara Fechner first came to the United States as part of Lisa Academy High School’s foreign exchange program. Although she went back home to Germany to finish high school, she fell in love with the American culture and her host family right here in Little Rock.

Fechner returned to Arkansas for college with her host family as her only connection to the United States. She chose UALR because it is where her host sister, Stephanie Jennings, attends college. Now, Fechner is a first-year Donaghey Scholar and the president of the International Club.

The nominee’s minor in marketing encouraged her to analyze students’ needs and wants and create events accordingly.

“I enjoy organizing events and then sitting back and watching people enjoy them,” she said. Organizing events, especially for the student body, gives her a sense of accomplishment and pure joy.

Fechner described her perfect day as “having the best of both worlds.” She would plan a fun event for the student body and visit her family in Germany.

She also added that she “would throw a tennis match in the mix.”

If there were one thing Fechner could not live without, it would be her family—and people in general. As Fechner considers herself a people-oriented person, she enjoys making people smile and will go the extra mile to do so.
