The Trojans were back at it again with home victories against the UIC Flames and the IPFW Mastodons on Friday Feb. 28 and Saturday March 1.

The starting pitcher against UIC was Travis McDonald who had some issues in the beginning, but calmed down as the game progressed. The game started rocky when UIC scored two runs in the first inning, but the Trojans came back to score two runs in the third inning to tie the game. Jesse Harbin came in relief of McDonald to pitch for the Trojans.

Neither team put runs on the scoreboard until the bottom of the sixth inning, when Drew Merten had a hit that let Scheuler and Pfeiffer score, making the game 4-2 Trojans. Two more runs were scored and Justin Steelmon hit a single that allowed two runs to be added to the scoreboard, making the score 8-2 Trojans. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Bryson Thionnet hit a solo home run, putting the Trojans ahead 9-2. UIC’s Conor Philbin scored at the top of the eighth inning, making the score 9-3. The Flames scored two runs in the ninth inning, but the Trojans held them off and won the game 9-5.

UALR pitcher Ethan Schlechte started the game the next night against IPFW. Ben Crumpton scored early in the game when he ran home from second base with the help of Justin Steelmon, who hit the ball to centerfield. At the end of the first inning, the score was 1-0 Trojans. At the top of the fifth inning, the Mastodons hit a leadoff single and Schlechte walked batters to load the bases. IPFW’s Carter Deboe scored to tie the game 1-1.

Both teams were still tied by the bottom of the eighth inning, but the Trojans came to change the score. With two outs and bases loaded, Drew Merten hit a single that let Scheuler and Steelmon head home, putting the Trojans in the lead 3-1. Since IPFW didn’t score at the top of the ninth inning, UALR won the game 3-1. Ethan Schlechte pitched seven innings, striking out seven batters and letting one run score. Cory Malcom pitched the last two innings and prevented the Mastadons to score.

The Trojans have an 8-5 overall record after going 0-3 against Ole Miss on Mar. 7-9.  The Trojans return home Wednesday Mar. 12 against UAPB.
