A queen is crowned: Trojan talk nominee calls it ‘another one of God’s blessings’
The homecoming queen was announced on Saturday, March 8 at the men’s basketball game. Senior Sharhonda Kelly who represented “Trojan Talk”, was chosen as UALR’s homecoming queen. She was escorted by her father Tarazzo Kelly to accept the award.
Kelly is a biology major set to graduate in May. She hopes to attend medical school and one day become a family practice doctor. At UALR, she is a Health Promotion, Programs, and Education peer educator, University Science Scholar, Ronald McNair Scholar, Delta Epsilon lota Honor Society and also the face of “The Condom Cart.”
“I give all thanks to God and everything I succeed in is because of Him,” Kelly said. Her favorite quote from Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.”
Kelly said being named homecoming queen is “an absolute honor. I am elated to have the opportunity to represent this campus!”
“It’s just another one of God’s blessings. It’s a little funny because before [my] sophomore year of college, I had always been a tomboy. I never dressed up and in high school; I never even made Homecoming Court.”
Students may congratulate Sharhonda Kelly for being chosen to represent the University of Arkansas at Little Rock as the 2014 Homecoming Queen. They may also congratulate the four other finalists: Quay Allen-Smith, Vivien-Sara Fechner, Gabrielle Phifer, and Tuesday Williams.
