Because it’s fun! Understanding the past helps you reflect on and understand the world as it is today.

Why History at UALR?
In the UALR Department of History faculty are both specialists in their fields and committed teachers. Our diverse curriculum includes studies about the Ancient World to present day, and areas from Arkansas, the South, and the United States, to the wider world beyond.

What will I do after graduation?
As a History major you will learn important skills which are attractive to a wide range of employers. Graduates go on to use these skills in a variety of different jobs as educators, researchers, editors, information managers, advocates, or as business executives.

What else do I need to know?
The Department of History has an active and lively national honor society club, Phi Alpha Theta; the department awards a number of scholarships annually; and there are many opportunities to work with a range of local history museums as an intern.
