History

History Day

The UALR Department of History hosts the Arkansas District 7 History Day competition each year for students in Pulaski, Saline, Garland, Hot Spring, Grant, and Jefferson Counties.  Contact Kristin Mann, kdmann@ualr.edu, for information about sending students to the competition.

The 2014 competition will be held in Stabler Hall and the Old Student Union Building on March 8, 2014, from 9am-2pm.  The awards ceremony will be in the Dickinson Hall auditorium at 3pm.

Each school may send a maximum of 5 entries in each category:

4th-5th grade poster contest – World History – individual only

4th-5th grade poster contest – U.S. History – individual only

junior division (grades 6-8) individual historical papers, websites, documentaries, exhibits, and performances; junior division group websites documentaries, exhibits, and performances

senior division (grades 9-12) individual historical papers, websites, documentaries, exhibits, and performances; senior division group websites documentaries, exhibits, and performances

The top three projects in each category advance to the Arkansas State History Day competition at the University of Central Arkansas.  For more information on the state competition, or for rules and resources, visit http://ar.nhd.org/

To register students for the competition, you should first create a teacher account at http://ar.nhd.org/register.  Registration will open January 13, 2014.  Then, follow the instructions at http://nhdsupport.acuweb.com/public/TeacherRegistrationpublic.php to register your students and assign them to entries.

All students and their entries must be registered for the District 7 competition prior to February 7, 2014.
