Can the Grease

In 2009, the office of Student Housing partnered with Little Rock’s Wastewater treatment facility in an effort to promote sustainable living through waste management. An objective of the partnership was to acknowledge the use of grease of other drain damaging liquids. The primary goal of the partnership was to reduce the effects of the improper disposal of waste in our facilities and the effects of Little Rock’s water system.

One reusable metal container along with a disposable plastic bag was placed in every room of the housing complex. This program encourages over 900 residents to help protect water systems in our community. The containers are a safer alternative as opposed to directly disposing of grease and other drain-damaging liquids by pouring them into the sink. The process consists of simply placing the tied and liquid-filled disposal bag into the garbage can.

If your building permits the use of grease and other cooking oils, Please email Tremaine Williams, Sustainability Coordinator, at tbwilliams@ualr.edu to receive a kit.
