The University of Arkansas at Little Rock seeks applicants to fill the position of facilitating research on high performance computing (HPC) system and visualization hardware/tools – Post Doc (req #739). This full-time 12-month appointment will carry a competitive salary and excellent benefits. The position will begin Oct 1st 2009 or soon thereafter, contingent upon funding approval from National Science Foundation, requires both HPC administration skills and highly qualified research track.

Description of duties: The position is for IT Campus Champion whose goal is to effectively engage researchers to use HPC and/or visualization hardware and tools available in campus and beyond. The duty includes active collaboration with researchers from diverse discipline across campus, providing expertise on the operational and technical aspects of using HPC resources. IT Campus Champion will commit to attending monthly CI Training Days events, and will coordinate, advertise, and recruit additional participants from their campus to the event as appropriate. IT Campus Champion assists users to quickly get start-up allocations of computing time on TeraGrid systems, to login and use the systems, to port codes to the systems, and to move data. IT Campus Champion will also work closely with the partnership’s visualization staff to train local faculty and students on the use of the visualization tool kit, will serve as a campus point of contact for the scheduling and management of the shared partnership resources, and will participate with faculty in proposal development, assisting in the planning, specification, and design of new Cyberinfrastructure resources.

The incumbent will have the opportunity to pursue research in HPC under the supervision of the lead research scientists. Highly qualified research experience in the following areas of HPC is desired: Power-aware Computing, High Throughput Computing, Data-intensive Computing, Load Scheduling, Parallel and Distributed Computing.

Qualification requirements: Earned doctorate with dissertation research in an appropriate field (such as Mathematics, Computer Engineering or Computer Science). Documented skill in computing and research experience in HPC will be necessary for successfully achieving project goals. Research experience with a record of publications in one or more related areas is highly desirable.

The successful candidate will demonstrate technical competency, a commitment to team research and quality, excellent communication skills and the ability to work with other researchers and students from across various departments from the campuses involved.
