University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Office of Academic Advising seeks qualified applicants to fill the 12 month position of Student Development Specialist (R99801) who will function as an Academic Advisor. Academic Advisors report to the Division Chief for University College/Director of Academic Advising. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: detailed documentation of developmental academic advising in an individual and group setting, delivery of quality academic advising within departmental, university, state and federal policies, maintains expertise in national college test scores interpretation. interprets and maintains expertise in institutional-based placement tests and credit-by-exam options, assists director in the compilation and submitting of division and departmental reports, may assist or teach Personal Awareness Courses, utilizes computer technology to assist students and others in the advisement and registration of undecided majors, serves as a resource for other professionals in the coordination of professional development activities, provides intrusive advisement contacts for specifically identified students, coordination of related research projects and departmental and division initiatives, working hours include evenings and weekends, demonstrate effective interpersonal writing and organizational abilities, technical skills, including experience with personal computers and office software including, Microsoft Office XP and Excel, will assist director with the coordination of professional support staff and the daily operational scheduling process, develop and maintain an understanding of the functions of other UALR offices (e.g. Admissions, Financial Aid, Testing, Counseling and Career Planning, etc.). Develops degree plans for students seeking the Associate of Arts in General Studies Assists with all assessment plans, take an active role in planning and supporting all enrollment, retention and institutional mission, related initiatives, demonstrated ability to integrate complex information in the advising process and demonstrated ability to work in a diverse and dynamic environment. Minimum Qualification: Master’s degree in student development, higher education or a closely related field preferred; full-time experience as an academic advisor/or in the provision of student Support services (e.g. Admissions, Records and Registration, etc.) supporting undergraduate students in achieving their academic goals.
