The 3rd Colombian Congress on Business Intelligence Features Presentations by Dr. John R. Talburt on Data Governance and the Role of the Chief Data Officer

Dr. John R. Talburt, Coordinator for the Information Quality Graduate Program at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, gave two invited presentations to the Third Colombian Congress on Business Intelligence (COLBI 2015) held October 8-9, 2015, in Cartagena, Colombia. The conference was organized by the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Medellin, Colombia. More than 130 attendees from academia and local industry gathered to discuss the latest developments in business information analytics.

In hiIMG_0487s morning keynote address, Dr. Talburt discussed the key components of a comprehensive data governance (DG) program, the challenges faced by an organization trying to implement DG, and the importance of DG in support of business intelligence (BI), the main topic of the Congress. In his afternoon keynote address, Dr. Talburt spoke about the emerging role of the Chief Data Officer (CDO) and how the CDO is critical to the success of DG and BI.

Other international speakers at COLBI 2015 included Dr. Javier Bermúdez Garcia from Peru, Alexander Ibarra from Venezuela, Frederick DeWorken from the U.S., Mauro Trossero from Argentina, and Dr. Philippe Nieuwborg from Canada. Serving as Congress co-chairs were Dr. Roberto Reyes and Iván Uribe, from the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana.
