Brianne Orr


Dr. Brianne Orr is the specialist in Latin American Studies in the department. She received her PhD in Hispanic Cultural Studies from Michigan State University in 2009. While Dr. Orr has broad teaching and research interests, her primary areas of teaching and investigation combine the studies of revolution and gender in guerrilla literature and political texts of the revolutionary period of the 20th century in Latin America, particularly in Cuba, Bolivia, Nicaragua and Mexico. Dr. Orr’s other related research and teaching interests include post-revolutionary, film and interdisciplinary studies. In the spring semester of 2010, Dr. Orr will offer a seminar that combines such areas titled “De la literatura al cine en Latinoamérica”. The corpus for this course will include texts from major Latin American authors such as Gabriel García Márquez, Reinaldo Arenas and Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara, among others that were later converted into films.
