Sherry A. Ray Treviño
Sherrie Ray-Treviño completed her M.A. in Second Language Acquisition and Pedagogy with an English as a Second Language Teaching Endorsement. Prior to completing her M.A. she earned two Bachelor’s degrees in Spanish and International Studies. Additionally, Sherrie lived in Guadalajara, Mexico for 18 months as well as spending extensive periods of time in Guatemala and Argentina. She has taught Spanish at UALR since 2000 and is also very active in area elementary schools working with non-native English language learners. Sherrie also is a trained ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interviewer. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Sherrie is the Spanish Club faculty advisor and was the Director of UALR Programs Abroad for many years and successfully increased student participation in study abroad by over 300% during her tenure. In this capacity, her responsibilities included organizing and coordinating numerous international initiatives across the curriculum, developing new study abroad experiences for every college within the university, recruiting students, assisting faculty with program planning, and organizing existing international programs. Sherrie currently advises students who are interested in studying languages abroad and assists with the organization of the summer language programs in Spain, Mexico, France, and Germany. As well as teaching Spanish and working with study abroad, Sherrie has been the Executive Director of the Arkansas Foreign Language Teachers Association since 2008. Outside of UALR, Sherrie is a very active volunteer in her community where she coordinates and tutors in various ESL reading programs.
