APALSA Joins Voting Campaign Launch

Bowen APALSA members meet with other area residents.The Bowen Asian Pacific American Law Student Association (APALSA) had joined the Arkansas United Community Coalition (AUCC) in its local launch of a two-month campaign designed to promote voting among young people in the state.

“Take Deferred Action! Rock the Immigrant Vote” is a nonprofit, nonpartisan campaign that aims to reach out directly to Arkansas immigrants with the goal of promoting the participation of 25,000 new American voters in the Nov. 6 elections.

The campaign will also inform local youth about how the recent development in immigration law known as “deferred action.”  The U.S. Customs and Immigration Services (USCIS) recently opened applications for deferred action, based on the announcement that the Department of Homeland Security would extend some undocumented youth protection from deportation and allow them to apply for work permits.
